THE ART OF CREATIVE PRACTICING

In my courses, you'll always have my enthusiastic permission to take inspiration and copy the included exercises and illustrations as part of the creative process! After all, my intention is to help you become a better artist. By studying and replicating the course content, you'll acquire valuable techniques, develop a deeper understanding of telling stories without words, thoughtful compositional content, along with formulating essential processes that cultivate your creative voice. Practicing the art of copying, or what I like to call creative practicing, will help you establish a strong foundation and open the door to discovering your one-of-a-kind signature style. - Danielle

IMAGINE THE POSSIBILITIES

Throughout our time together, you'll learn to use patterned paper and ephemera to inspire your color palette and create mixed-media illustrations that tell unique stories. We'll dive into mixed-media mark-making, template-building, and dimensional assembly. By the end, you'll understand how to use your art supplies as a starting point for inspired illustrations, make thoughtful color choices, and apply watercolor-based mixed-media techniques. You'll also discover a newfound love for assembled illustrations.

All my courses include detailed videos and coordinating handouts and worksheets. In this course, the curriculum includes technique-based exercises and inspiration, watercolor infused mixed-media exploration, a sweet start-to-finish project, and illustration variations to keep you creating well after the class ends.

LET'S BUILD!

Join me as I entwine lovely little strokes of the watercolor brush, some mixed-media mark-making, and a few snippets of patterned paper here and there, to make the sweetest, rainbow-filled collage featuring my very favorite character, Pippity Poe. When complete, you'll have fallen in love with the process of layering whimsical mixed-media illustrations that whisper stories without words.

Take Inventory.

Explore all the mediums you can find in your creative stash using different tools and just one color, white. An in-depth inventory of your imaginative mark-making that allows you to find what you love in the absence of color.

Repetition Rules.

Take a moment to discover how the same patterns repeated in a variety of ways ties your work together like magic. This example shows the power of dots. Look at the spacing, size, colors, and mediums. Amazing, right?

Stories in Layers.

Mixed-media illustration allows you to play with shape, pattern and color with an open mind and a creative heart. A puzzle for artists just like you. You can hide bits you don't like, create depth with layers, and even tie them together with bows.

Kind Words.

I think I love Pippity Poe as much as Danielle does! The class was fun from start to finish and I've used so much more mark-making into my work. I really like that Danielle includes extra samples of her work using the same process so I can see other things I can do with what I have learned. -Jill R.
